Why A Shopify Store for Your Blog Makes Sense

Have you ever thought about creating a shop for your blog? It’s a great way to grow your blogging income and it can even be a very passive form of revenue for you! If you’re ready to dive in but not sure where to start, keep reading to learn how to open your very own Shopify store in 30 minutes or less, from an experienced five figure per month Shopify store owner!
Getting Started with Shopify
Shopify is your platform of choice and they are AMAZING! I have operated multiple Shopify stores, along with some competitors and Shopify is the best, by far. You will enjoy some awesome perks like:

- Affordable plans
Step 1: The plan
I recommend the middle plan. It comes with some reporting features that will come in handy when you wanna track your monthly sales with ease. Not to mention, gift cards! I’ve always gone with this plan. Recommended.
By the way, if you aren’t sure, you can always test out their platform with the 14-day free trial. You can take it for a spin to see what Shopify is really like. You’ll probably upgrade to a paid plan before the trial ends. If you’re serious about starting an ecommerce store, Shopify is the way to go!
Setting up Shop
When it’s time to set up your store, there are a few components to start with.
- Contact page
- About us page
- FAQ (optional)
- Social media
What will you be selling? If you are selling more than one item, you’ll need categories. For example, a clothing company might have categories like: tops, pants, shorts, dresses, accessories, etc. A jewelry company might have categories like: rings, bracelets, necklaces, etc. Get it?
Now, if you are only selling one thing or only one type of product that doesn’t fit into multiple categories, you can skip this and just add a Shop or Store link in your navigation menu.
You want readers to be able to contact you if they have questions. It’s one of the first pages visited by a new visitor. It helps determine if your store is legitimate. Add your store details like store address, email address, etc. It can also be a simple Contact Us form. Whatever route you wish to take with this page, just make sure you complete it and make it up and running when you launch.
About Us Page
Equally important as the contact page, it helps the visitor determine if your store is legitimate so you wanna make this page good. Tell your store, describe why you wanted to open, what you hope the future brings, what inspires you, etc. You can talk about your family, your hobbies, what drives you, etc. Creating a connection can happen on the About Us page. Keep this in mind.
The Frequently Asked Questions page is optional but I recommend adding it. You can even get an app from the App store in Shopify which makes it super easy for you to launch an FAQ. Think about questions first time visitors will have.
- What is the processing time? Shipping time?
- Where are you headquartered?
- Where are products made?
More is better here. Go all out and add as many questions as you want.
The products, of course! It’s important to write a detailed, well thought out product description. Hire a sales copy writer if you’re having a hard time with this because trust me, it makes a difference.
Include extras to your product page like sizing chart, frequently asked questions for the product, care instructions, operations instructions, etc.
Don’t forget to add the store’s social media handles somewhere on your site. Do not skip this.
It’s not necessary to splurge on an expensive theme for your store. The free themes are perfectly fine and a lot of times you can change out photos, font, etc. to really make it your own. I recommend starting with a free theme for a few months then upgrading in the future if you so choose.
Time to Launch!
Once you’ve set up your store, it’s launch time. You can create some excitement around this, run a giveaway, collaborate with influencers or a PR company to really create some bustle and hype when it’s time to launch, doing more of an official launch to start things off with boom.
Or, you can just press the Launch button.
Leading up to the launch, make sure your product pages are complete, you have your pages (about, contact, etc.) filled out and ready to go and you’ve been posting on social media. A note on social media: start posting on your store social media accounts BEFORE you launch! You want customers to be excited about your store going live. Start doing this the minute you begin working on your store setup (or before)
